Program Description

The 11-month Bachelor of Arts in Psychology – OT Track is the ideal undergraduate pathway for pursuing a graduate degree and career in the field of occupational therapy. Students who graduate from this program are well-positioned to apply for the Occupational Therapy Doctorate program offered at Sara Schenirer.

By incorporating 36 seminary credits, this degree can be completed in just one year and incorporates all common prerequisite undergraduate courses required for application to medical-based graduate programs. Students enjoy access to outstanding professors and save time and expense through this innovative program. Additionally, should a student decide to pursue a different master’s degree pathway in a non-medical field, this bachelor’s degree will prove suitable for those possibilities as well.

This degree is offered through The College of Mount St. Vincent (CMSV) and St. Peter’s University (SPU).

Your ideal college choice depends on a number of factors including location, financial aid eligibility, and your preference for online or in-person classes.

  • New York Residents: CMSV is the ideal option as potential financial aid benefits for NYS residents are greatest when attending a NYS college.
  • New Jersey Residents: SPU is the ideal option as potential financial aid and scholarship benefits for NJ residents are very substantial and can significantly reduce the cost of the program.
  • Students who reside outside of NY/NJ and/or require an online program must choose CMSV, as this program is available fully online only through CMSV. The SPU program requires in-class attendance in Lakewood on Sundays.

Which colleges have you partnered with to offer this degree?

We are proud to have partnered with two exceptional colleges to offer this degree:

  1. The College of Mount Saint Vincent (CMSV), a highly ranked college in NYS, featuring an outstanding undergraduate Psychology department. Among the five oldest colleges in New York City, CMSV offers more than 70 nationally recognized programs, including a full array of majors and minors in the sciences and mathematics, the humanities, arts, and social sciences, and professional preparation in accounting, business, communication, education, and nursing. This program is for NYS residents and online students.
  1. St. Peter’s University (SPU), a highly ranked university in NJ, featuring an outstanding Psychology department under the leadership of Maryellen Hamilton, Professor and Chair of Psychology. Founded in 1872, the university offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 2,600 undergraduate and 800 graduate students. US News and World Report ranked St. Peter’s among the Top 100 “Best Regional Universities in the North,” and Money Magazine ranked St. Peter’s and the “Most Transformative School” in the state of New Jersey. This program is for NJ residents only.
Will this degree be accepted by other universities?

Both institutions are regionally accredited, which means that their degrees are accepted by graduate programs nationwide. Students have used the bachelor’s degree earned at CMSV and SPU for admittance into master’s programs in a wide variety of colleges. For specific information about CMSV’s accreditation, please see here; for SPU’s, please see here.

What advantages does this specialized Medical track offer over the standard BA in Psychology?

All common prerequisite medical-based undergraduate courses are included in this degree at no additional cost.

Does this degree program limit me at the graduate level to graduate programs in medicine, or can it be used to apply for graduate programs in other fields?

The degree, a BA in Psychology, is extremely versatile and can be used to apply for a wide range of graduate degrees. By incorporating all prerequisite courses into the undergraduate program, students are better prepared to apply for graduate programs in the medical field upon graduation but are not limited to those fields. Students have successfully used this degree to gain entry into graduate programs in Nursing, Physician’s Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, and more.

Will the environment and education be suitable for a Bais Yaakov student?
CMSV and SPU pride themselves on offering superior education along with outstanding student support in a culturally sensitive environment. They are understanding of the unique requirements and religious sensitivities of the students recruited by Sara Schenirer and have worked diligently to accommodate our requests to ensure an environment suitable for Bais Yaakov graduates.
Why choose Sara Schenirer?

Most of all, we provide exceptional warmth and support to every single CMSV and SPU student at Sara Schenirer. What are the admission requirements?
  • High School Transcript (minimum 3.0 GPA)

For more information on how to order and take this test, click here.

Which credits can be applied towards the B.A. degree?
The Office of the Registrar at the CMSV and SPU grant transfer credits to students who have completed courses at accredited institutions and have provided their official transcripts for evaluation. The Registrar evaluates and accepts only credits that apply to the student’s program of study and reflect a final grade of ‘C’ or above. Accepted credits are applied to the student’s record, reflected on their academic planner, but not calculated into their college GPA. A transfer credit planner will also be shared with the student’s advisor to assist with schedule creation and developing a graduation plan.
When and where are classes offered?
We have locations in Boro Park, Crown Heights, Five Towns, Lakewood, Monsey, and Passaic. Students can also take this degree through our entirely online program, Sara Schenirer Anywhere.
  • Live-Online – Two classes on Sunday and one/ two weeknights each week
  • NY/ NJ – Two classes in person on Sunday and one/ two Live-Online weeknight classes
Can a NJ resident choose the online program option?
Absolutely. However, St. Peter’s University is a NJ-based institution. Therefore, NJ residents who are eligible for financial assistance will receive significantly larger scholarships through SPU than CMSV, which is a NY-based institution. NJ residents who are not eligible for financial aid will also automatically receive a special tuition discount through SPU that is unavailable through CMSV.
What makes Sara Schenirer different?

• An affordable degree program
• In-class learning with an online component
• Highly personalized student mentoring
• Generous transfer credit program
• Student-friendly Bais Yaakov environment
• Exemplary education with outstanding instructors

College of Mt. St. Vincent

If taken through CMSV, the cost for this degree is approximately $19,500.

Tuition for the undergraduate programs is $1200 per 3-credit course.

During the program, students typically take 15 courses (over three semesters) for a total cost of $18,000. All courses taken through CMSV may be covered by financial aid.

In addition to seminary credits, a student will likely need to take a limited number of additional exams or courses to complete her degree. These additional courses cost approximately $1,500. We provide personalized guidance to ensure that this is accomplished affordably and efficiently.

St. Peter’s University

If taken through St. Peter’s University (SPU), the price for the full program is $22,000 before scholarships are applied.

For eligible students, the cost of the college courses may be entirely covered by financial aid. Students who are not eligible for financial aid will still be entitled to significant grants and/ or scholarships that substantially reduce the cost of the degree.

Additionally, payment plans are available each semester.

Our advisors will be glad to explain the cost structure to you so you can see for yourself how truly affordable this degree program can be for you.
