FAQ

What is a Bachelor’s in Speech and Audiology?

The Bachelor of Science in Speech and Audiology, which precedes the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology, is the perfect pathway for aspiring male speech therapists.

Which college have you partnered with to offer this degree?

We are proud to have partnered with St. Peter’s University (SPU), a highly ranked university in NJ to offer this degree. Founded in 1872, the university offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 2,600 undergraduate and 800 graduate students. US News and World Report ranked St. Peter’s among the Top 100 “Best Regional Universities in the North,” and Money Magazine ranked St. Peter’s and the “Most Transformative School” in the state of New Jersey.

Will this degree be accepted by other universities?

SPU is regionally accredited, which means that its degrees are accepted by graduate programs nationwide. Students have used the bachelor’s degree awarded by SPU for admittance into master’s programs in a wide variety of colleges. For specific information about SPU’s accreditation, please see here.

*Sara Schenirer offers an MS in SLP through Jacksonville University; graduates of the BA program enjoy preferential admissions status for that graduate SLP program.

What employment options are open to a student with this degree?

Graduates of this program are positioned to apply for entry to a Master of Science in SLP program. Upon graduation from the master’s program, they can apply for licensure and certification as speech-language pathologists.

Employment of speech-language pathologists is projected to grow 27% from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations. As the large baby boom population ages, the number of patients with health conditions that can cause speech or language impairments, such as strokes or dementia, will continue to rise. This makes speech-language pathology an important, stable career path with a long future.

If I’m not planning to become an SLP, is this an ideal degree option for me?

This degree is specifically intended for an individual who intends to enter the field of speech-language pathology. Of course, it can be used to gain entry into numerous graduate degree programs in a multitude of fields, but students who don’t intend to pursue a career in SLP may want to consider our Bachelor of Business Administration program.

How long will it take to earn the degree?

This degree can be completed in as few as three semesters (11 months). The Master of Science in SLP will require an additional 20 months to complete.

Will my Yeshiva credits count toward this degree?

Yes. Up to 85 Yeshiva credits may be accepted toward the degree program.

Will the environment and education be suitable for a Ben Torah?

SPU prides itself on offering superior education, outstanding student support and a culturally sensitive environment. The university is understanding of the unique requirements and religious sensitivities of the students recruited by The Men’s Division at Sara Schenirer and has worked diligently to accommodate our requests to ensure an environment suitable for Torah-observant Jews.

Why choose The Men’s Division at Sara Schenirer?

Ours is the only program offered exclusively to men who aspire to careers in SLP and was carefully, caringly designed with all their needs in mind. We pride ourselves on the high-quality educational partners with whom we work, who offer accredited degrees, an uncompromised environment, and first-rate faculty.

Most of all, we provide exceptional warmth and support to every single student at The Men’s Division at Sara Schenirer. For students and parents alike, the world of college and degrees can be confusing, costly, and difficult to navigate. We work diligently to offer personal guidance to each student and help ensure their success and timely graduation.

What are the admission requirements?

Only a high school transcript or diploma is needed for this degree.

Which credits can be applied toward the degree?

The Office of the Registrar at SPU grants transfer credits to students who have completed courses at accredited institutions and have provided their official transcripts for evaluation. The Office of the Registrar evaluates and accepts only credits that are applicable to the student’s program of study and reflect a final grade of ‘C’ or above. Accepted credits are applied to the student’s record, reflected on their academic planner, but not calculated into their College GPA. The transfer credit planner will also be shared with the student’s advisor to assist with schedule creation and developing a graduation plan.

Acceptable transfer credit options vary and include, but are not limited to, the following: Traditional college credits, CLEP (College Level Examination Program) Exams, AP (Advanced Placement) scores, VLE (Validated Learning Experiences), IB (International Baccalaureates), CAPE (Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Exam), A-Levels and Military credits, and Coopersmith Exams.

When and where are classes offered?

Classes are offered live-online three nights each week, in addition to one asynchronous course.

How much does the degree cost?

The price for the full program is $18,000 before scholarships are applied. After applying scholarships, the maximum out-of-pocket expense for any student is $12,000. Additionally, many students are eligible for an array of generous grants that can reduce the cost of the program to as little as $0.
